Sunday’s bike ride went really well and was just as predicted. All followed me without question - and most didn’t even notice when I took a wrong turn and led them round in a small circle at one point.
Now I know that it’s wonderful to be trusted in this way and I’d love to be perceived as a servant leader like Jim – but … isn’t it a tad worrying too?
There’s a lot of pretty scary research which suggests that people are – quite literally in this case – easily led and tend to conform to group norms. Which was great for me on Sunday – but is it great for society generally?
